beatrice_otter: Me in red--face not shown (Is A Puzzlement)
I know you are. This is me, ridiculously technology-illiterate for a 25-year-old American. I don't even know how to set up/use a chat or IM program.

So. I sometimes use my laptop as a really big MP3 player, because I don't have the money for a real mp3 player (not having had a job in over a year and the last job I had averaged five hours a week--I'm a full-time student) and I haven't gotten one for Christmas or my birthday yet. I use Windows Media Player. I would like to download a few songs over the internet, I know they have them on iTunes. How would one go about transferring them from iTunes to WMP? Should I see if I can download them from some other site? The only pay-download program I've ever used is iTunes; I bought a couple of Stargate episodes I missed from them when I couldn't stand to wait for the DVDs. But that's been at least a year.

So. I have a song I want to buy. I like to support the artists I listen to both because it's the honest thing to do and because if people don't pay them to write and perform songs, they'll stop doing so--everybody has to make a living. HOWEVER. Amazon.com doesn't sell the cd; it has the A-side of the single available for download but not the B-side (which is the one I want). As far as I can tell, the only other place that has the B-side for sale is iTunes--and they're only available in a proprietary format, so I could only listen to them in iTunes, which I never use. I couldn't play them in Windows Media Player, which is where all the rest of my music is. And none of their singles are available for sale from the band's website or their MySpace. So, basically, there's no place I can buy their music in a form I can actually use. I want to give them money! A hint to all people who run businesses out there: you don't want to make it hard for people to give you their money. It's kind of counter-productive.

So. Does anybody know where I can download a copy of The New Pornographers' "Spirit of Giving" single and its two B-side tracks, "Joseph, Who Understands" and "Arms of Mary/Looking at a Baby"?

Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out how to navigate the idiocies of the modern music industry.
